Newspaper Activities for Brain Freeze

1. Compare the online version of today´s News-Journal and The Picayune Times. On the Web, go to nieworld.com and, on the left sidebar, find NAA (Newspaper Association of America). Under NAA, click on Newspaper sites - National. Once there, click on the map of Louisiana. Scroll down, click on The Times Picayune, and print page 1 of the site. Follow the same steps, using the map of Florida, to get to and print page 1 of The News-Journal´s site.

2. In this chapter, FreeZee challenged Myron to think beyond the excitement of war to the horrors of it. From The News-Journal, clip articles that express different feelings about current wars around the world and with friends and/or family discuss the positives and negatives of each. Conduct a poll to see how your classmates feel about some of them.

3. Since Hurricane Katrina, Louisiana and New Orleans have been in the news. Clip articles from The News-Journal about current conditions there. If possible, select a school there to communicate with and help.
