1. All of the kids in this story are unique. From your newspaper clip articles and photos of kids in the news because of their special accomplishments, talents, interests, or hobbies. Create a drawing or write a short paragraph about someone in your school, family or community whom you admire. Share it with classmates, friends or family. (Sunshine State Standard LA.B.2.2)

2. At the end of this chapter, J.J. makes the point that without proper nutrition, the whooping cranes cannot survive. Proper nutrition for Americans, especially American kids, has been in the news a lot recently. With classmates or family discuss some of the nutrition-related problems and solutions reported on in your newspaper. (Sunshine State Standard HE.C.2.2)
