Endangered

Chapter Eleven

— Newspaper Activities —

1. This chapter opens with Katie wishing she had strong wings like the whooping crane to help her fly home. From your newspaper, clip pictures of things you wish you could have and assemble them into a montage. Send a digital picture of it to nie@nieworld.com for possible publication on the Web. Then, with friends and/or family create an action plan for acquiring one or more of those wished-for items.

2. The comic section of your newspaper is a rich source of line drawings. Spend some time studying the storylines and techniques and then, try your hand at creating a cartoon. Send a digital picture of it to nie@nieworld.com for possible publication on the Web.

Environmental Exploitation: Oceans of Trouble?
Did you know that over two-thirds of our Earth is covered by ocean? These salty seas supply food, wildlife habitat and natural resources such as oil underneath the ocean floor. Oceans also create weather systems that give us rain and they provide opportunities for transportation, commerce and recreation.
