Clues Corner - Week 1
Corn plays an important role in tribal diet and custom, although it can be a challenge to grow corn in Florida's climate. Many Native Americans believed that dancing and other ceremonies might have a favorable influence on their harvest. Seminole Indians, along with other tribes, danced a special Green Corn Dance at the beginning of the planting season in hope of raising a good crop. Solve the puzzle below to learn of another tribe that still performs the dance.
Directions: Below is a list of words sometimes associated with corn. Unscramble the letters of each word in the right column to form a synonym of the corresponding word to its left. Write your unscrambled words in the spaces provided. If you've solved the puzzle correctly, the letters you placed in each box will form a word that spells the name of the tribe. A lake in Florida is also named for this tribe.
