Clues Corner - Week 3

By the time the Spaniards arrived in Florida in 1513, the territory already held as many as 200,000 native people that the Spanish called cimarrones, or free people. The spirited tribes were called this because they would not allow themselves to be dominated by Europeans. By the mid 1800s, many U.S. citizens referred to everyone who lived in Florida by the name cimarrones, which can also mean "wild" or "runaway." Solve the puzzle below to learn how the word cimarrones has come to be pronounced today.

Directions: Start with the letter "S" at the top of the circle. Working clockwise around the circle, choose every other letter until you have used all nine letters. Write the word you formed in the spaces below the puzzle.
