Look carefully at the eight buildings pictured above. Notice details that set them apart from one another, such as construction materials, windows, doors, roofs and porches. (Hint: You can click on each photo to see a larger version. Then, use your "back" button to return to this page.)

Next, look at the architectural term associated with each building. The style Jackson asked about does not belong in any single category. It is actually a general term that means the building doesn't have features that fit into another style. Its structures are usually simple, with little or no ornamentation, and they often have a single-story porch across the front. "Frame" versions of this type are built out of wood; "masonry" versions are built out of brick. What is the name of this style?
