Retired Lt. Col. Hiram Mann spoke at Saturday´s ceremony. The Tuskegee Airmen were originally formed as the 99th Fighter Group in 1943 and saw action in Africa flying P-40s. As the war effort closed in on Germany, the group was joined by the 100th, 301st and 302nd to become the 332nd fighter Group of the 15th Air Force (Army) in July 1944.

Bailey on Saturday at the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum in DeLand. The sculpture, honoring the World War II veteran of 133 combat escort missions with the 99th Fighter Group, was created by DeLand artist Ralph Batten.
