Understanding what happened in the life of a family member inspires some pupils to learn more. That's how Nicholas Heiler, 9, a fourth-grader at Deltona's Timbercrest Elementary, became interested in the D-Day Invasion.

History buff collects mementos of county's oldest settlement

Kevin Finn chuckles as he stares at the postmarks on the white envelope.
"This is very cool," he says. One postmark says "Benson Springs March 31, 1937" and the other "Enterprise April 1, 1937."
No, it's not an April fool's joke, just one of the many treasured items in Finn's growing collection of personal and dramatic moments in the history of Enterprise, the seat of Volusia County until 1888.
