In Volusia County, there is a housing development that has roads commemorating famous military leaders. General Custer Avenue was named for General George Armstrong Custer, who led the charge of the Union Army during the Battle of Little Big Horn in Montana on June 25, 1876. Overwhelming numbers of various American Indian tribes met them, and General Custer, along with his entire command, was slain. |
