NEWSPAPER ACTIVITIES
1. In this chapter, Rico and Mari went to Tom Cat for help. Clip from The News-Journal articles that show people helping other people. Then write about a time when you helped, or were helped by, someone. Send it to nie@nieworld.com for possible publication on the Web. (Sunshine State Standards: HE.B.3.2)
2. Rico and Mari’s family called the police for help in locating the children. Clip from The News-Journal articles that mention the police in action. With classmates or family, analyze the actions of the police in the articles. Then, separate them into categories such as helping, defending, investigating, etc. Make a graph to show which were most often reported on in the news. Share your findings. (Sunshine State Standards: SS.C.2.2)
