Wednesday, February 13, 2002 Theater company presents musical performance
By DIANE FALK | News-Journal Correspondent DELAND — The Sands Theater Center is well known for its theatrical productions presented by the Rivertown Players, Stage II and the Storybook Theater Company. Perhaps not so well known, however, is the Theater Center Touring Company, a band of actors and actresses who take the theater out and around town to a variety of organizations, churches and retirement centers. The Touring Company comes off the road this weekend, however, to present its own brand of humor and entertainment on the Theater Center stage with "Madam Too-Soo's Wax and Wane Museum." The 11 members of the company portray a variety of wax figures who come to life to perform a number of songs. Among the familiar show tunes will be "Music of the Night" from "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Everything's Coming Up Roses" from "Gypsy." The show will also feature several original tunes written by director Day Blackburn, who has been leading the company for 12 years. "There is such an interesting mix of talent and experience in the group," said Blackburn. "They are all such individuals." The cast includes Connie Blackwelder, John Bratt, Pat Calvin, Marshall Durocher, Henry Dutton, Ross Geiger, Ann Humphreys, Howard Leach, Ann Oliver and Peg Tand, with Miriam Withers as the museum docent. Organizations interested in booking the Theater Center Touring Company to perform at a function may contact Day Blackburn at (386) 734-3754.
