That Was Then

What the Silver Bullet driven by Kaye Don had in length, it lacked in speed during its record assault in 1930. The decade would belong to Sir Malcolm Campbell and his Bluebirds, but he didn´t eclipse the 300-mph mark at Daytona Beach.

That Was Then

In December 1947, Bill France Sr., tallest in top row, gathered racers, car owners and promoters for a meeting at the Streamline Hotel on State Road A1A in Daytona Beach. The end result was a new racing sanctioning body: NASCAR. At top left is Sammy Packard, the sole living member from the meeting.
