Chapter Six. The Sacrifice

Things to think about and do
Classroom Extensions:

1. Larry gave up his prize ball. Would you give up one of your favorite things so others could benefit? List some ways people sacrifice for others.

2. Larry listened to Mr. Williams tell stories about playing baseball when he was a boy. Is listening to someone part of communicating with them? Do you think Larry learned something when listening?

Newspaper Activities:

1. In this chapter, Larry makes a decision to sacrifice his own wants for the good of his friends. Look through copies of The News-Journal for stories of people making sacrifices for others. Draw a picture or write about a time when you made a sacrifice for another and send it to nie@nieworld.com for possible publication the Web. (SS.C.2.2)

2. Read the Score section in Thursday´s News-Journal for coverage of local high school and college sports. Select one or more exciting accounts and, as Larry did, share it with your family. (PE.C.2.2)
