The Basset HoundBasset Hounds originally came from England. They are hounds, which mean they´re hunters. They have a very good scenting nose! They are also good family pets because they enjoy companionship and are very lovable. Bassets get along well with children.
Their shoulder height is 13-15 inches (this means if you measure them from their shoulder to the ground, you´ll have a measurement of 13-15 inches). They are heavy dogs for their size! Bassets have a smooth, short-haired coat. The most usual color combination is brown, black, and white. Because of their long, floppy ears, you need to clean them (inside and out) about once a week. Grooming their coat is easy! Just give is a good brushing to remove dead and loose hairs. Bassets have a tendency to become fat very easily - be careful you don´t feed them too many snacks! This type of dog grows very quickly, so make sure they have a good nutritious diet when they´re puppies. Generally, the Basset is a friendly, sociable, playful and patient dog. If you´re looking for a pet that has a sense of humor and a real personality, this is the dog for you! Keep in mind that with personality comes independence - don´t expect them to wait around for your command. With that scenting nose of theirs, Bassets can find plenty of things to do. Bassets will bark loudly when they sense danger. They love to explore and, if you´re not someone who stays at home much, have two Basset Hounds - they will keep each other company and explore! Just like Barney and Woodrow! SOURCE: American Kennel Club Serial Story: WOODROW TALES -- The serial story ran in the Daytona Beach News-Journal each Monday from January through May.
