1. Experiments are still making news. Collect articles from The News-Journal that report on experimental objects or procedures. Sort them into categories based on how they will be used, such as in medicine, manufacturing, the military, etc. Graph your findings and discuss the results with classmates or family members.

2. Octave Chanute spread the news of the Wright Brothers´ accomplishments to correspondents around the world. Today´s News-Journal contains news from many other countries, too. Make a list of all the datelines (the place where a news story was written) that appear in the A and B sections of one edition of The News-Journal. Test yourself, your friends and family to see how many of these places you can locate.

ON THE WEB: Not within a Thousand Years -- The Wright brothers returned to North Carolina in July, 1901. They made their camp in Kill Devil Hills, rather than Kitty Hawk, as they found the large hills there more congenial to flight tests than the beaches of Kitty Hawk. The glider was an enlarged version of the 1900 glider. The wings were 22´ wide and 7´ deep, and offered more than 300 square feet of lifting surface to the stiff Outer Bank winds.
