Bright Ideas Lesson Plans

Breaking the Ice

This activity with the newspaper can be used as an "icebreaker" at the start of the school year and/or a reinforcement of main ideas through headline use.

Title: "Extra! Extra! Read All About Me"

Students print one letter (on each line) of their first or last name on a blank piece of paper. Students peruse the newspaper (using all sections) for headlines that begin with the first letter of their names. Headlines are then glued next to the respective letters of the student´s name.
