Bright Ideas Lesson Plans

Six Week Review

This classroom tested cooperative activity requires the students in the intermediate grades to work together to locate and practice concepts and skills taught in a given period of time, using the News Journal as the source.

The activity has taken up two hours to complete with fifth graders working in groups of two or three.

Using the newspaper encourages all the students to participate and stay on the task. It is a fun activity and makes it possible for the children to see how what they have learned fits in with real life.

Examples are readily available in the News Journal. The newspaper provides reinforcement for their lessons and helps them study in an exciting way for up-coming tests.

This assignment can easily be modified for any subject matter and can be repeated for each new unit.

Easy to evaluate, this simple but effective plan works well with upper elementary or middle schoolers. It is time efficient for the teacher, while providing necessary review of classroom concepts for the student.
