Tell them that they can use this money in class today. Talk about the currency in various other countries for example $200 is how many pesos or English pounds. This will make any students from another country feel very good!
B. Developmental Procedures: Explain to the class that with this money they must buy a pet, one piece of furniture, and one item that is important to them. They have to look through the classified section of the newspaper to find each of these things and how much they cost. They will estimate how much the items all together will cost, then the students will add all of the prices of the items together. They will then subtract that total from the total amount of money they were given. Questions to ask the students: What do you do if you spend over $200? What kinds of things are you finding in the newspaper? How can you use the newspaper later? How can you estimate how much something will cost? C. Closure: Have each student tell what they bought that was important to them and why. Tell the class how much money they had left over or tell how far over the $200 they went. Students will tell two reasons why they bought an item. VI. Lesson Evaluation: The lesson will allow students to familiarize themselves with the newspaper.
