Newspaper Lesson Plans
Sampling Italian FoodsObjectives: (1) Students will locate and use the BILL OF FARE section of the newspaper to find Italian restaurants in their area. (2) Students will write a letter, using standard letter format, to one of the restaurants asking the restaurant to bring some sample dishes to their classroom for a project. (3) Students will write a compare and contrast list on how the Italian foods are both similar and different from ´American´ foods. Materials: BILL OF FARE section of newspaper; Writing paper | Anticipated Use of Time | Teacher Activity | Student Activity | | 10-15 min | Explaining activity | Listening | | 20 min | Observing/helping | Looking up restaurants in the BILL OF FARE | | 20-30 min | Helping students | Writing letters to restaurants | | 30-45 min (another day) | Testing foods from restaurants |
