The Mini Page — 2005 Activities
Mother´s Advice Issue 18 April 30-May 6This week´s standards:Students demonstrate respectful and caring relationships in the family, workplace and community. (Family and Consumer Science: Interpersonal Relationships) Students explore factors that contribute to one´s personal identity, such as interests, capabilities and perceptions. (Social Studies: Individual Development) Activities:1. Draw a picture of your mother or another female relative. Write her favorite saying under your drawing. 2. Select photos or art from the newspaper to illustrate seven different sayings in today´s Mini Page. 3. Use a red marker to circle all the sayings in The Mini Page that you hear in your home. Now have a friend circle all the sayings she/he hears with a blue marker. What sayings are the same? Why do you think you both hear those sayings? 4. What do these sayings mean: (a) roll with the punches, (b) think of the glass as half full, and (c) don´t judge a book by its cover? 5. Write a paragraph about a situation where something your mother or female family friend said turned out to be true. Use these questions to think about your writing: What was happening? Were you happy or sad about the result? What did you learn from the situation? Dr. Sherrye D. Garrett Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi
