Asian Pacific Americans Issue 19 May 7-13, 2005This week´s standards:Students understand that history relates to events and people of other times and places by identifying examples of interesting Americans. (Social Studies: History) Activities:1. Draw a picture of you and your friends playing with a toy or game that came from an Asian country. Write a sentence about your picture. 2. Look at the list of items from other countries in today´s Mini Page. Cut out pictures or words that relate to items on that list. Make a collage of your pictures and words. 3. Make a list of foods, cartoons and games that you like that come from Asian countries. Interview several friends or family members about the foods, cartoons or games they like. Which items were the most popular? Which response surprised you most? 4. Collect news stories about the Asian countries discussed in today´s Mini Page. What do the stories tell you about each country´s (a) government, (b) economy, (c) culture, and (d) relationship with the United States? 5. Use resource books and the Internet to learn about other important Asian Americans. Use these questions to guide your research: What Asian Americans did you find in these fields: (a) sports, (b) entertainment, (c) government, (d) science and (d) business?
