Business Department:
Scanner(s) for Digital Publishing Class, Digital Camera(s) for Web Design and Digital Publishing classes, smart board for web design, video camera, projection screen, white boards to cover existing chalk boards. We need one really high end computer with 3GB RAM and dual monitors you could use just for rendering; it would work so fast that it could handle all the kids’ animations. It would probably cost between $1500 to $2000. We are working on 3D Studio Max. While the computers the county gave us for our new lab are sufficient for Photoshop (the other art classes) and the initial drawing in 3D Studio Max they do not work well for our rendering. We have one animation that we have been trying to render (put in the final AVI movie format) since November, but other work keeps interfering or the power shuts down. We started the rendering process again last Friday morning at 8 a.m. – it is still going (over 137 hours at this point). It will probably take through the weekend before it finishes. This is a computer station where students work all of the time. Those students who are seated there during the day have had to work at another desk. Next year when our classes are full all day this will not work. Part of the class is those students provide finished animation of their 3D projects.
English: I have requested $244.44 from SIP to put projection screens in C-1, C-4, and B-4. Also, I’d like to request class sets of novels (best-sellers, really good books that teenagers can relate to).
Math: The Math Department can always use AAA Batteries to keep the technology we have usable. We would take what we could get.
Science: Science needs laptops for lab work – we have 32 now we could use 132 and still be short some days so any would be helpful.
Academies: The Academy of Information Technology and Engineering is in need of business sponsors for the Robotics Team. We have to raise $5000.00 by February 1st in order to pay the entry fee so the kids can go to Atlanta to compete in the FIRST Nationals with their robot. We have 75 members on the robotics team in two leagues – FTC and FRC. FIRST stands for “For Recognition and Inspiration in Science and Technology.” The program inspires young people to pursue careers in engineering, science and technology through the use of a game model. Students are given a game they have to build a robot to play and they have six weeks in which to do it. The competitions are held in large arenas and are very much like attending a sporting event. Our regional competition will be at the UCF Arena with 80 teams participating. The Nationals are held in the Georgia Dome with over 10,000 students participating. Many companies including Motorola, Ford, NASA, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Siemens sponsor teams.
Dance: I would like to have a new stereo system in the dance room. I would love to have the ability to record music and shows. I would like a digital camera to video student choreography (will need that for IB Dance). I would like a “dance floor” finish for the safety of my students. It is available at Stagestep and costs $1,000.00 which is for a guaranteed 2 year finish, including cleaner. I would like a large supply of copy paper and I would like a sponsorship for a costume fund. I would also like to have the old Papillon composites reframed so I may mount them on the walls.
