Election-Related Newspaper ActivitiesUse copies of The Daytona Beach News-Journal with the following: 1. Check the Help Wanted ads for jobs that are most like the job of President of the US. Then write a help wanted ad for that position. 2. Identify some major issues in this election. Then create a list of related questions and conduct a poll of classmates, friends and neighbors. Analyze the results by comparing and contrasting the responses by such characteristics as age, gender, political party, etc. and share the results with your class. 3. Identify one major issue in the election and search newspapers for examples of it in the following formats: a news story, an editorial, a column, and a cartoon. Organize your findings into a poster or other visual and share with your class. 4. Write a letter to one of the candidates in this year´s election. Include a wish list of things that you believe are important to our future. 5. Make a chart showing who´s actively supporting the major candidates. Include the relationship between the candidate and supporter and what affect his/her support is having on the campaign. In the last column, identify cartoon characters you think would support each candidate and why. 6. Find examples of things a candidate may have said or done that he/she regrets. Write a paragraph from the candidate´s point of view explaining what happened and why.
