Who Am I?My paternal grandfather was a doctor who tended to Teddy Roosevelt´s Rough Riders at San Juan Hill. My maternal grandfather was one of the founders of the Bacardi rum company. My father was the mayor of our town and later elected to Congress. My young life of wealth and privilege ended with the Cuban Revolution in 1933. When I was sixteen, my family fled Cuba and went to Miami on a ferryboat. I did odd jobs to help my father make a living. For a while I played in the band of Xavier Cugat, but was soon cast in a Broadway musical, Too Many Girls. In the movie version of that play I met the actress who was to become my wife. During WWII, I joined the Army and helped to entertain the troops. In 1950, my wife and I formed a TV production company and introduced I Love Lucy to the world. The rest is, as they say, TV history. I died of cancer in 1986 at the age of 69.
